Welcome to the Mutual Fund Services and Technology Awards

The Mutual Fund Services and Technology Awards recognize service providers’ contributions to the mutual fund industry. The Awards are an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of fund administrators, custodians, law firms, accounting and audit firms, technology companies and others providing the vital operational functions that keep mutual funds in business.

Winners will be announced at an evening ceremony on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at the Lotte New York Palace.

Best Fund Administrator Overall

This award is designed to reward mutual fund administrators that showcase best-in-class attributes regardless of the size of assets under administration. Firms must show growth and innovation within the last 12 months, as well as a mixture of customer and revenue success. Additionally, administrators must demonstrate strong brand development over the last year.

Criteria:

  • Share sales and marketing figures (must be an increase from year previous if submitted to 2017 awards)
  • Demonstration of product innovation
    • Launched or made headway to launching new product within the last 12 months
  • Description of future development potential and plans
  • Positive customer feedback submitted via testimonials
  • Illustrate commercial and business growth
    • Please include quantitative data to support this

 

Best Fund Administrator under $100bn

This award is designed to reward mutual fund administrators that are responsible for less than $100bn in assets under management. Outstanding firms will display growth in assets as well as improved innovation leading to new business over the last 12 months. Success is dependent on a mixture of revenue growth, product development and innovative thought processes.

Criteria:

  • Share sales and marketing figures (must display an increase from the year prior)
  • Demonstration of product innovation
    • Launched or made significant headway to launching new product(s)
  • Description of future development potential and plans
  • Positive customer feedback submitted via testimonials
  • Illustrate commercial and business growth
    • Please include quantitative data to support this

 

Best Administrator for Technology and Reporting

This award is designed to reward fund administrators that have displayed excellence and innovation around reporting and technology services over the last 12 months. Success in this category is dependent on providing examples of now recent requirements – such as Mifid II, GDPR, Form N-PORT, Form N-CEN – are being handled and improved for clients. Candidates should explain how their technology services contribute to adding new clients and improved customer experience.

Criteria:

Best Law Firm

This award is designed to honor the law firm that has developed a holistic suite of effective services targeted to meet the needs of mutual fund companies. Firms should have demonstrated a consistently high standard in providing legal services for asset managers over the last 12 months. Success in this category is dependent on quantitative demonstration of superior customer services, detailing examples where client advice or counsel made a significant difference for a client.

Criteria:

  • Commercial success, including bringing in additional clients
  • Demonstration of an increase in services (please give concrete, quantitative statistics about onboarded clients)
  • Positive customer feedback submitted via testimonial
  • Examples of key areas of recent advice on timely industry issues

 

Best Advisory Firm for Regulation

This award is designed to honor compliance professionals in the adviser space that have demonstrated expertise in providing mutual fund clients with regulatory advice. Success in this category depends on a mixture of demonstrating quantifiable customer services and revenue growth, as well as illustrating how new regulatory requirements are being handled. Firms should detail new and innovative initiatives and showcase specific compliance products that have aided in business growth over the last 12 months.

  • Detailed examples of where advisory services have aided clients with industry problems

Best Transfer Agent and Shareholder Services

This award is designed to honor firms that have demonstrated superior shareholder and client services in a market increasingly saturated with intermediaries. Firms should showcase innovation in technology that has helped to grow both business and assets over the last 12 months. Success depends on quantifiable demonstration of an increase in shareholder accounts and enhanced recordkeeping services, including innovation in service models.

Best Accounting and Audit Services

This award is designed to honor service providers that have made advances in providing superior accounting and audit services to mutual fund clients. As an outsourced fund accountant, firms under consideration must showcase innovative technology or software that they have used over the last 12 months that aided business growth. Candidates should detail examples of how new products or services have been able to improve effectiveness of business.

Best Communications and PR Firm

This award is designed to honor companies that have showcased an ability to manage the media and reputation of mutual fund clients. Success in this category depends on illustrating client and customer growth, revenue growth and detailing how PR campaigns or outreach has represented the best interest of fund clients.

Criteria:

 

  • Demonstration of client numbers and client wins over the last 12 months
  • Specific example of where communication advice helped a client

Best Fund Distributor

This award is designed to honor distributors that have showcased superior client service, particularly in the midst of regulatory uncertainty including with the DOL fiduciary rule. Applicable candidates will detail how they have handled pressure on 12b-1 fees from the SEC. Firms should also demonstrate a strong marketing ability and improved client services over the last 12 months, specifically in the realm of client communications.

Criteria:

 

  • Demonstration of service innovation including new technology launches, acquisitions or partnerships
  • Description of future development possibilities and actions being made toward those goals
  • Positive customer feedback submitted via testimonials
  • Illustrate quantitative, statistical commercial and business growth
  • Showcase how services have acted in the best interest of shareholders

 

Best Cybersecurity Service Provider

This award is designed to honor the technology vendor that has shown a commitment to keeping shareholder assets safe as fund firms fend off cyber attacks on a daily basis. Candidates should provide concrete examples of how they have been responsive to cyber threats, how they have used innovative technology and processes to guard against cyber attacks and how their technology, platform, software or infrastructure has made a positive impact on clients’ overall security. Success in this category is largely determined by customer service, quantitative demonstration of cyber protection and outperformance in a large peer group.

Criteria:

 

  • Description of an exceptional new product or service made or launched within the last 12 months
  • Examples of key areas of advice or technology implementation that made a demonstrable difference to clients
  • Description of high-level of client service
  • Demonstration of significant business growth over the last 12 months

Best Broker-Dealer Overall

This award is designed to reward the broker-dealer that has shown growth and innovation over the course of the last 12 months. Success in this category is dependent on concrete examples of how the firm has demonstrated innovation, responsiveness and made a difference in client business development, as well as innovation in both technology and operational capacities. Strong candidates will bring forth supporting quantitative data to support their growth both in clients and in technology and operational advancements. 

Criteria:

 

  • Business growth and commercial success as a firm
  • Description of future development possibilities and demonstrable effort toward those goals
  • Positive customer feedback via submitted testimonials
  • Demonstration of increase in mutual fund clients

 

Best Technology Provider Overall

This award is designed to honor the technology firm that has provided excellent service and infrastructure for the mutual fund industry. Success in this category is dependent on the demonstration of both customer and revenue growth, as well as detailed examples of how service provision has improved communication, IT and business development of a client or clients. Strong candidates will submit supporting data that demonstrates significant growth in clients, client revenue and commercial success.

Criteria:

 

  • Demonstrable commercial success
  • Business growth over the last 12 months
  • Demonstration of increase in mutual fund clients
  • Demonstration of product innovation – be specific
  • Detail specific examples of how advice has aided clients

Best Risk Management Solution

This award is designed to reward mutual fund risk management providers that have displayed growth and innovation while providing mutual fund traders, portfolio and risk managers with superior risk, scenarios and portfolio analytics across complex and multi-asset investment portfolios. Success in this category is dependent on demonstrable customer and revenue growth, as well as product development innovation that boasts significant positive customer feedback and success. Superior candidates will submit quantifiable material to ground their success and growth over the last 12 months.

Criteria:

 

  • Demonstrable commercial success and business growth over the last 12 months
  • Innovative risk management platform or solution development (i.e. expansion into new asset classes). Must be new to the last 12 months of business
  • Demonstration of increased number of mutual fund clients
  • Description of future development possibilities and significant headway toward those goals
  • Positive customer feedback via submitted testimonials

 

Best Clearing and Settlement Technology

This award is designed to honor a technology provider that has displayed depth and success in their technology underpinning the settlement and clearing of securities. Success in this category is determined by innovative technology advancements in settlement execution and clearing reconciliation, client satisfaction and streamlined reconciliation processes. Technical advances following the move to a T+2 settlement cycle will also be considered.

Criteria:

 

  • Success under a T+2 settlement cycle
  • Commercial growth and business success
  • Undertaking innovative technology developments for reconciliation over the last 12 months

Best Trading Technology – Client Services

This award is designed to honor a technology provider in the mutual fund trading space with an emphasis on their impact on client services. Success in this category is determined by demonstrated attention to clients’ needs and future needs from a trading perspective, submitted positive feedback from consumers on their experiences, a thorough focus on client engagement and consistent positive results from consumers using the technology. Successful applicants will demonstrate quantifiable success in the above requirements and show forward-looking growth initiatives. 

Criteria:

 

  • Quantifiable commercial success and business growth

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize client feedback loop to update and create new technology innovation
  • A focus on client engagement that surpasses other providers in the space and is increased from year prior

 

Best Data Management Solution

This award is designed to reward a data management provider who has displayed growth while providing innovative data management solutions to the asset management community. Success in this category is determined by distinct customer and revenue growth, innovative product development that boosts customer success and a demonstration of significant business success in the last 12 months. Consideration will be given to firms that prove they have narrowed down the scope of implementing “big data” infrastructures and strategies and can illustrate tangible ways in which their data management program or platform creates operational efficiencies for fund clients.

Best FX Trading Platform

This award is designed to honor a broker-dealer or service provider that has shown success and growth over the last 12 months as a foreign exchange platform. Success in this category is determined by customer and revenue growth, as well as detailing examples of how service provision has improved foreign exchange trading for clients.

Examples of how a specific initiative positively impacted client growth are critical to success in this category.

Best Cloud Solution

This award is designed to reward a technology provider for the mutual fund industry who has proved excellence as a cloud-based solution provider over the last 12 months. Success in this category is determined by examples of how the cloud-based solution has streamlined client processes and time to market, demonstration of customer and revenue growth and detailing the success rate of assets for clients deploying the solution. Consideration will also be given to firms that can demonstrate the security of their cloud technology.

This award is designed to reward a technology provider who has debuted a product or platform for the mutual fund asset management community that aids in trading, client interfaces or operational capacities. Success in this category is determined by concrete examples of how the product has aided a client’s success, including streamlining operations, faster time-to-market for trading platforms, reduced overall cost for firms and/or positive customer feedback. Standout applicants for this category will show innovation, forward-looking approaches and attention to customer feedback.

This award is designed to honor an order management provider who has displayed excellent service over the last 12 months. Success in this category is determined by proven organizational and operational streamlining through technology advancements, proven cost reduction for clients and minimal security order errors. Consideration will be made for firms that operate a combined OMS and EMS.

This award is designed to honor an execution management provider in the mutual fund industry. Success in this category is scored based upon innovative use of new technology for seamless market data integration, optimizing trader efficiencies across trading platforms, and positive net growth for orders managed across the software. Consideration will be given for a provider of a combined OMS and EMS.

  • Demonstration of seamless integration of market data with the software for traders

ENTRY RULES

When entering the 2018 Awards, please read through the criteria for your chosen category(ies), which explain what the judging panel will be looking for when they judge the entries and select the winners.

The awards will be publicized in the media. All awards finalists will be honored and the winners announced at an evening ceremony on Thursday, October 4 at Lotte New York Palace.

All winners will also be invited to be interviewed by Fund Intelligence.

HOW TO ENTER THE AWARDS 

How to enter the awards

1. Review the categories and entry rules

Carefully read through this year’s Awards categories and the accompanying entry criteria to help you decide which categories to enter and what information to include in your entry.

2. Complete the official online entry form

Submit the official entry form by the entry deadline of 5pm EDT on Friday, August 10, 2018.

Entries close at the above time, so make sure you have submitted your online entry form in time.

The Awards are FREE to enter, and you can submit as many entries as you wish across all categories. The shortlist will be announced at the beginning of September 2018.

 

How to complete the online entry form

1. Create an online profile to access the entry form. You will use this to draft and submit your award entry(ies).

2. Complete the online entry form. You can draft and save your submission, then return to edit it up until the entry deadline. PLEASE NOTE: All entry forms automatically save as drafts. You need to submit your entry form in order for it to be considered by the judges.

3. Submit the online entry form. Go to the dashboard section of your online profile. Tick the box(es) next to your entry(ies) and click the Submit Selected button underneath.

4. Make your final submission by the entry deadline- Friday, August 10, 2018.

JUDGING

Judging process


Judges will take part in an adjudication process to decide the winners in each category. One expert per category will be asked to summarize the judges’ comments and provide additional input as warranted. Judges have discretionary power to move submissions into alternative categories that they think may be more suitable. All judges are required to sign a disclaimer form to keep information about entries and the final winners confidential.

PLEASE NOTE: Judges do not adjudicate categories that any associated institution might have entered, and are obliged to declare potential conflicts of interest prior to assessments.
